three words: ezra. the. baby. just one of many extra cute offspring of our friends, and the main attraction to a morning at the dupont farmers market. though in all honesty, we were nearly as excited to see his parents as we were to see him.

it was a bit of gloriousness to see the dupont farmers market. when we left vermont 2 days before, there was a frost warning, and while our farmers market has begun for the season, there’s not much there and won’t be till late june/early july. so imagine our delight when we arrived at the market to see strawberries, lettuce, cherries and other fresh foodies galore. one of the cool things about the dupont farmers market is that the food must be grown within 50 miles of d.c., and can’t be second party sellers.

after meeting up with s&d&e, we flopped down on the green of the circle and enjoyed our various fruits/salads/pastries and caught up on the last few months, which was lovely. i’ve been hanging with s&d since i gradumacated from college in 2003 and moved home. they make me happy and they make me giggle.

after we parted ways for the afternoon, but not before we gave them some home made tomato preserves [very vermonty of us], we made our way back to my aunt’s house for some floppage and chilling pre-dinner. we went to reston for dinner with my dope cousins at some burger place that made the mister ever so happy, and while the salad that accompanied the burgers was eeeeh, the sweet potato fries were a delight to my soul. also a delight was the fact that we could sit outside. warmer than vermont, less warm than d.c. will be a couple of weeks. the sweet spot.

onward and outward to ohio…

der gross abenteuerurlaub-day sam [also known as day two]

so, not to put a damper on the rest of the trip, but the highlight for us might of been on day two. e & i were sitting in the cool of the dia beacon cafeteria, the mister reading up for his talk, me reading “emma” when the smarter half looked out the wall of windows. “no, that’s not…that’s not, well, sepi, just take a look out the window. LOOK.” to which i responded with a shriek and a run out the doors and a GIANT hug for our friend sam who surprised us from boston. dope.

sam is a rockin’ friend who we hung out with massively in san francisco, a fellow stanford buddy of the mister’s who we’ve had the luck to pack-up and bring with us to the east coast when we moved. [actually, he transferred schools to boston when we moved to vermont] sadly, we don’t get to see him enough for living 3.5 hours away. blah blah blah, work, blah, school, blah, blah, dissertation. so this was wonderful.

the after the talk [which went fabulously] we three went out to late late lunch and then on to d.c. for day three…

handsome devils at hudson hills cafe.

nice ceiling.

we three. blurry, but pleased.

still in the u.s., but no longer in vermont. it was sad to leave our little homestead for so long. i planted hardy vegetables in the garden with the hopes that when get home again, they will have survived on rain along. our friend sam [we’ll get to him on day two,] will be stopping in to hang-out away from cambridge and get some country on, so they just have to make it a while longer.

we arrived at beacon ny on a stunning and sunny day to find NO ONE at the b&b where we had reservations.[ i would highly NOT recommend staying at the mt. beacon b&b. they didn’t respond to phone calls, either answering or returning calls, we got double charged, we had to ask many a time for the iron and ironing board. so while the room itself was nice, the owners were duds.] so i dropped the mister off at dia beacon and hopped off to the downtown strip.

“downtown beacon” while 8xs the size of “downtown middlebury” isn’t exactly a metropolis. it’s pretty run down and broken, it kind of reminds me of rutland, but probably there’s less of an oxycotin problem in beacon. as a side note, our lonely planet new england guides says of rutland “route 7 by-passes downtown rutland, and so should you.” but back to beacon. there are quite a number of tasty restaurants and fun little antique shops to look at, as well as one of my favorite crafty good stores clay wood and cotton. i would love to sell some cake plates/donuts/quilts here.

after i wandered a bit on my own, i picked the mister up and we attempted, successfully, to get into our room for the night. the owner recommended a good french restaurant in neighboring cold springs ny, so after a few games of rummy, of which he emerged victorious, we bounced off to our dinner reservation at les bouchon. the food was delicious, but in keeping with the running service theme, the kitchen was sloooooooooooooooow. i got a cold soup & mussels, and the mister got a duck comfit, none of which were complicated, and it took two hours to get served. luckily, the weather was nice, the patio comfy, and company, of course, lovely.

now to the best bit of day one. we found an ice cream shop called moo moo. clearly it was fate that we got dessert there. i got a delicious shortbread cookie ice cream, and e. got a thin mint ice cream. not only was the name a clincher, but the ice cream was delicious too.

all things super & creepy

the mister’s office spider. it has another face on it’s body. not cool dude. not. cool.

super moon from our front yard. this photo, as were all the following, was taken at midnight. i must admit that a super moon is not as impressive in the country as it is i the city. not much for scale in the middle of nowhere, and also, it’s the masses of stars that make a country sky beautiful, and they are washed out by a super moon.

spooks spire in the super moon light.

our neighbor’s house in the super moon. believe me, it didn’t need to feel any creepier than normal.
